ABOUT US

History of the Department :

Department of History is the oldest department in the college. It started its long journey way back in 1950s when there was no college within the radius of 30Kms of Amta. The honours course was introduced in 1961. During its journey the institution has gifted to society several notable personalities which include Teachers, Poets, Lawyers, Administrators, etc. These prominent figures have earned reputation in and outside their locality through their exemplary works.

Speciality of the Department :

Apart from chalk and talk method which is a regular mode of teaching, the students are exposed to the new and recent techniques of teaching learning process through large scale use of audio visual aid. The department provides a platform to the students to exhibit their talent and creativity. The Departmental library and Central libraries have a rich collection of rare historical books. Historical movies and documentaries are shown. Educational tours to historical sites are arranged once a year.

 

C. Seminar Organized :

The Department of History has organized three State Level and two National Level seminar during the academic year 2010-2011, 2011-2012 and2016-2017 with active participation of students, teachers and research scholars with the vision of enriching the knowledge base of the students.

i) DPI Funded 2 day State Level Seminar organized on Caste Culture & Society on 2nd and 3rd Feb. 2011.

ii) UGC funded 2 day National Level Seminar on Popular Culture in 19th and 20th Century Bengal organized in collaboration with Rabindra Bharati University held on 24th & 25th Nov. 2011.

iii) UGC funded 2 day State Level Seminar on Sport and Nationalism organized in collaboration with Paschim Banga Itihas Samsad held on 16th & 17th January 2012.

iv) The Department organized a seminar on 6th and 7th of March, 2012 on Popular Rural Culture in 19th and 20th century Bengal in collaboration with Joypur Panchanan Roy College.

v) UGC sponsored National seminar on Historicizing The Peripheries: Colonial and Post Colonial Discourse on 17th and 18th March 2017,organized by Department of History Ramsaday College in collaboration with Vidyasagar Centre for Indological Studies, Rabindra Bharati University.

 

D. Other academic programme organized :
