History :
The Department of Commerce was set up in 1972 with B.Com (General) Course. The department expanded its operation when B.Com (Honours) was introduced in 1985. It has a sanctioned student capacity of 135 students and 100 students per year for B.Com. Honours & General respectively with specialisation in Accounting and Finance, affiliated to University of Calcutta.
At a glance :
• Separate Departmental Room with Library, computer with scanner and printer to fulfil the urgent need of students as well as teachers.
• Departmental Library is well equipped with books and few journals for career advancement, contributed by the teachers of the department. Some of the ex-students have also donated books for the library. The books are issued to the students on a regular basis. The students pro-actively take part in the maintenance of the library.
• Specific class room allotted for specific year students which ultimately eliminates huge loss of students' class hour as there is no loss of time, between two successive periods, as students' movement from one class to another is non- existing.
• Separate closet for teachers for discussion, meeting and interaction with students to meet their need in learning and boosting up their morale and free access to teachers.
• UGC Sponsored State level Seminar held on 7th and 8th March, 2011 on 'Change in the Financial Scenario & Information Technology'.
• UGC Sponsored State level Seminar held on 17th August 2012 on 'Cooperatives for sustainable Agri-business'.
• UGC Sponsored Two Day National Seminar held on 11th & 12th February 2014 on "Ethics of Accountants: A Reality Check".
