History of the department
This department had started its journey in 1946 with the establishment of the college. Later on in the year 2000 the department got affiliation for B.Sc (Honors) course.
Speciality of the department :
One of the distinctive features of the Economics Department is the high teacher-student ratio. The department prefers to accomodate itself in smaller classrooms. A high teacher-student ratio offers distinct advantages in terms of individual attention, classroom management, student engagement, tailored instruction, and stronger relationships. These benefits contribute to an enriching and effective learning environment that supports students' academic and personal growth.
Secondly, since most of the teachers prefer teaching Economics in English, students face challenges initially but later on constant exposure to the language makes them more amicable and accustomed. Through regular interactions and communication, students who speak Bengali or another native language can improve their English language skills, including vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and fluency. We think this is an extra privilege of the students of this department .This facilitates them a lot to build up their communication skills for future academic or professional careers.
